Valse Triste is a visualisation of the classical piece by Jean Sibelius from 1903. Valse Triste literally means “sad walse”. The original music was made for a theater play and deals with death. We wanted to deal with the theme in a new way. We came up with a story of longing for a deceased one, and the fear of losing the memory of that loved one.
The video is performed by contemporary dancers, Anastasia Kostner and Takeshi Matsumoto, blending acting and dancing.
